Call for submissions
We’re open for submissions for the Ascension 2025 Issue. For this issue, we’re accepting poetry, reviews, and interviews (no essays, please).
We accept submissions from Canadians at home or abroad, contributors residing in Canada, or international writers engaging with Canadian culture, art, history, landscape, or experience.

Job Opportunities
The team at Traces is expanding, and we are looking for thoughtful writers and editors to join our team. Detailed job descriptions are included below. To apply or request more information, please contact traces.editor@gmail.com.
Poetry Editor
We are seeking a Poetry Editor who will focus their efforts on our poetry submissions. The Poetry Editor will commit to 3-7 hours/month (some months more, some less).
Key responsibilities include:
Soliciting and/or reading the journal’s poetry submissions
Sending responses to submitters
Working with poets to edit poems and ensure they meet our style guidelines
Working with the Editor-in-chief toward the development of an annual poetry contest
This individual will be an integral member of our team and will work closely with our editors and contributors.
Reviews Editor, Poetry
We are seeking a Reviews Editor who will focus their efforts on poetry reviews. The Reviews Editor, Poetry, will commit to 3-7 hours/month (some months more, some less).
Key responsibilities include:
Soliciting and/or writing six reviews of poetry books/chapbooks per year (approx. one every two months)
Soliciting and/or writing occasional reviews of other events/mediums of interest such as theatre performances, plays/musicals, art exhibitions, spoken word events, etc. (ie. Not books)
Editing each review and ensuring it meets our style guidelines
Communicating with writers and publishers to find/order new books and have them sent to reviewers in a timely manner
This individual will be an integral member of our team and will work closely with our editors, authors and publishers of books for review, and external reviewers.
Web & Social Media Editor
We are seeking a Web & Social Media Editor who will focus their efforts on the journal’s online presence. The Web & Social Media Editor will commit to 3-7 hours/month (some months more, some less).
Key responsibilities include:
Maintaining the journal’s regular presence on social media (Twitter/X)
Updating and maintaining the journal’s website and occasional newsletters
Uploading content for each online issue (twice per year)
This individual will be an integral member of our team and will work closely with our editors and writers. This individual should be detail-oriented, an efficient communicator, and able to meet deadlines. Familiarity with Substack is an asset.
