The Blind Leading the Blind: A Villanelle
by Lisa Kovac
The blind leading the blind means learning love.
The folk I follow form my heart's who's who.
We guide each other, walking hand in glove.
Sarah says I should ski. I learn to move
down mountains with finesse, fall, rise, renew.
The blind leading the blind means learning love.
Rebecca stands beside me at the stove;
we stir and listen to the sizzling stew.
We guide each other, walking hand in glove.
Mary and Kirk lend me a treasure-trove
of books and prize the word-wealth I accrue.
The blind leading the blind means learning love.
Lilly and I trade manuscripts. We shove
our feedback back and forth and reconstrue.
We guide each other, walking hand in glove.
When I struggle to sing, to sound above
a croak, I echo Jen, whose voice rings true.
The blind leading the blind means learning love.
We guide each other, walking hand in glove.
